As we mature, there seems to be increasingly more losses and challenges that we face. Life is never a walk in the park, but when the following situations hit you at the same time, your health could suffer:
- Financial pressure
- Health issues in loved ones
- Your own health issues
- Life transitions
- Post-pandemic life
Consider these suggestions to help you:
- Is it helpful to see a therapist? Asking for help is a sign of strength. Truly it is easier to help someone than it is to receive help. Letting someone who is objective listen to you helps you feel less alone and not “crazy”.
- Would a support group help you? Your peers who understand at a deep level what you are going through are comforting and priceless. Whether you are going through cancer, are a caregiver, or suffer from addiction, there is a group who can encourage you and provide support. You don’t have to go through this time alone.
- Prayer and belief in a higher power. Whatever form of spirituality works for you and you’re comfortable with has numerous benefits. Just knowing that there is a higher power you can turn to who has your back and is in control will give you strength to face challenging circumstances.
The way you faced challenges at an earlier stage in life, such as pushing through, may not work because you are a different person with multiple roles and complex lives. It takes humility to reach out, but it’s so worth it for the benefits outweigh any discomfort you may feel in the beginning. You may help others by sharing your experience and hard-earned wisdom through the people you encounter, especially in your support group.
