10 Reasons to Cook at Home

Let’s go over some reasons to motivate you to cook at home more often. Once you see how you feel, you may decide to make this a part of a healthier lifestyle.

  1. It’s healthier. You control the salt that you use. You can also choose cooking methods that suit you.
  2. You can control portions. Over time restaurant portions will seem unnatural.
  3. You are saving money. You’re not paying for restaurant overhead and tipping your waiter. You can make a healthy meal for a couple of dollars versus paying triple that amount when you eat the same meal as take-out
  4. It’s relaxing to let go of the day. If you’re not paying attention, you can burn your food. Being present is part of the cooking experience. Also, eating at home is a more loving environment than an overcrowded restaurant.
  5. The mental and emotional benefits. Cooking is creative-you can create your own work of art. It’s very satisfying to cook for yourself and others. Good eating is healing on multiple levels. It’s special to cook family recipes that have been passed down and provide good memories.
  6. It takes the same time as take-out. You can come up with a repertoire of weekday meals.
  7. It’s a form of nurturing yourself. This is such an important part of self-care that only brings positive benefits.
  8. Cooking is a sign of love for yourself and others. No words are needed. Everyone appreciates and misses a home cooked meal.
  9. You can have more variety than eating out. Restaurants have limits around time and money so they can’t cater to your specific tastes.
  10. You will eat more fruits and veggies. I’ve eaten out many times where it took conscious effort to order vegetables because it was not included as part of the dish. You have total control at home.

I’m not saying you should never eat out, but think of this as an occasional treat. Cooking at home is an important investment in your health and wallet. Let its magic improve your life.
