Ways to Be Around People Without Socializing

I recently made an appointment in my calendar to visit a coffee shop so I wouldn’t have to socialize, but would be surrounded by people. I noticed that my appetite was better and I was in a better mood when I came home. This was something I missed, which was something I took for granted when I worked in an office.

There are times when you don’t want to stay at home, but you don’t want to have long conversations. I’m a highly sensitive person and need to conserve my energy. When going through challenging times, grieving a loss, or feeling overstimulated, you still need places where you can soak in the social vibe.

Great ways to be around people:

  • Mall/shopping center-great for people watching and seeing children
  • The park
  • Coffee shops/bakery
  • Michaels (craft store)
  • Grocery store
  • Coworking space
  • Library
  • Gym
  • Sushi Bar
  • Stay at a restaurant instead of ordering usual take-out
  • Playground
Also, when you go get your mail, make it a point to talk to someone new. When you take a walk, say a friendly hello. Get to know the barista at your local coffee shop. Staying friendly and becoming a regular is a great way to socialize and also support local businesses. Everyone who works remotely still needs to get their social needs met outside of a zoom screen.

Stop and Smell the Roses – Part 1

I was recently walking through my botanical garden and I had to remind myself to notice the flowers in bloom. Winter will be upon us and fall is already here. Whatever I had in mind for the day, stopping and noticing this moment was most important to me.

I’ve recently asked myself if I’m enjoying the pace of my life and honestly it’s a no. What I mean is that I try to cram so much into my free time because it’s very precious to me. I feel that I have to cram in what I”m missing. The pace is not sustainable. Everyone has different seasons of life so you may have to examine what is happening in your life.
