Art Journals

I’m taking a Skillshare class on Art Journals. I’m completely fascinated with this process, even as an art dabbler. I think I found a new hobby and want to suggest that you try this out. I can’t do justice to explaining everything here, but there are tons of videos on YouTube.

As a non-artist this idea was intimidating, but I loved the idea of using my creativity to draw my thoughts and ideas, instead of always using words. I think that we can more easily access parts of ourselves that are hidden through art. You can be playful, creative, and transformative all at the same time.

All it takes is a mixed media sketchpad and whatever medium we feel comfortable with. I recently purchased paint pens and enjoy using those. Crayons are accessible and available. Having fun art supplies will motivate you, but you don’t need to spend tons of money.

There’s really no wrong way to do this. Some ideas I heard in the class were to draw what you’re feeling, think of a message to yourself, dream and plan, even draw what you ate for breakfast. This is your private space to create what you wish and there’s no judgment. This can also serve as a great record of special moments and travel highlights if you take your journal with you.

If you’re a fan of adult coloring books, this might be something you enjoy. You will find this incredibly relaxing and it will help relieve you of a stressful day and enhance your well-being. You may find a solution to a problem during your creative process in a really fun way! The process is powerful.

Stop and Smell the Roses – Part 1

I was recently walking through my botanical garden and I had to remind myself to notice the flowers in bloom. Winter will be upon us and fall is already here. Whatever I had in mind for the day, stopping and noticing this moment was most important to me.

I’ve recently asked myself if I’m enjoying the pace of my life and honestly it’s a no. What I mean is that I try to cram so much into my free time because it’s very precious to me. I feel that I have to cram in what I”m missing. The pace is not sustainable. Everyone has different seasons of life so you may have to examine what is happening in your life.
