Create Space

I like to never run out of favorite products. I think I’m addicted to having a full calendar. I have a serious fear of missing out on personal growth. I’m impatient for meetings to start and want to find ways to be productive until the last minute. I don’t think I’m alone. What if this fear and addiction keeps us from really living our lives? Having space in our calendars, our homes, and in our lives is something that takes work and curation. I understand that this may be a foreign concept in this culture. Most people are searching for more.

Because I was a girl scout, I believe in being prepared and just in case scenarios, which causes me to worry and plan ahead all of the time. Living in a different way, by being creative or making do is a way to create more space for the good things in our life.

Clear Your Schedule

Having space in your schedule means that you can cook meals and do meal prep. Being overly busy with a jam packed schedule means that it’s much easier and convenient to rely on take-out or frozen dinners.

Bathroom Declutter

Because of my new living arrangement, the bathroom counter holds much less than my own bathroom. I had to be content with just enough products after years of overstocking everything. I’m more mindful of how calming this is and enjoying just what I need which also saves me time and money.

Lighten your schedule.

Sometimes I try to pack too much into my day, especially on a Friday when I’m looking forward to the weekend. If anything, winding down sounds like a better idea. It can become stressful to the point of not seeing what’s right in front of me. Allowing space before and after an appointment and not rushing around is helpful in maximizing your me time, whether it’s a massage or sitting quietly in a coffee shop. I used to rush to a massage appointment and then rush to get to the next task. Savoring an experience can only happen when you’re not rushing around.

Reduce Window Shopping

Reduce shopping as a hobby. It can be dangerous in the sense that it hinders all of your hard work. If I had free time, I used to go window shopping, which led to spending money. Now I take that time to take a walk or practice deep breathing. I ask myself if I really need another aromatherapy candle.

Take a baby step to see how creating space can create greater ease and flow in your life. Check in with your body to see if your mood and outlook improve. You may never go back to the frantic and rushed pace that was the norm for most of us.

Stop and Smell the Roses – Part 1

I was recently walking through my botanical garden and I had to remind myself to notice the flowers in bloom. Winter will be upon us and fall is already here. Whatever I had in mind for the day, stopping and noticing this moment was most important to me.

I’ve recently asked myself if I’m enjoying the pace of my life and honestly it’s a no. What I mean is that I try to cram so much into my free time because it’s very precious to me. I feel that I have to cram in what I”m missing. The pace is not sustainable. Everyone has different seasons of life so you may have to examine what is happening in your life.
