We don’t often think of drinking our nourishment. I’m a tea lover of all kinds, but beyond the variety of colors, aromas and tastes, teas provide nutrition in an easy to digest way. One nice touch is to add sliced fruit such as blueberries and strawberries to tea to get the added benefits of the fruit, along with the additional taste and texture. Tea has many emotional and energetic benefits since they are derived from plants and herbs. You will have to experiment and see which ones are your best allies. You can journal how you feel after you try a tea. Here are some of my favorites:
- Hibiscus tea-Not only a gorgeous shade of pink, hibiscus tea is especially good for women and full of vitamin C. This herbal tea has no caffeine. Full of antioxidant properties, hibiscus helps menopause symptoms, benefits your liver, and lowers blood pressure. If it’s too tart, you can always add sweetener or blend with another tea.
- Green tea-A powerhouse tea full of antioxidants. Green tea also tastes wonderful blended with other ingredients. It has one third of the caffeine in coffee. Green tea is energizing and helps with focus. It helps you lose weight, improves your skin’s appearance, balances your hormones, and lowers cholesterol. Dr. Christiane Northrup always has a pitcher in her fridge. Matcha lattes are more popular and seem to be available everywhere. If you’re trying to reduce the coffee you drink, matcha lattes are a great substitute.
- Nettle tea– I appreciate nettle’s help for allergy sufferers. I discovered this tea several years ago when I was tired of taking allergy medicine due to the side effects. It’s a very nutritious tea with many vitamins and minerals, including vitamin C and iron, that helps control blood sugar. It takes time to get used to the taste, but try adding this to your arsenal.
Many parts of the world make tea an important part of a healthy diet. Tea can be filled with ceremony and help slow us down by creating more rituals in our daily life. Our lives are so busy, it’s nice to find a reason to nurture ourselves and receive numerous health benefits at the same time.
