One Minute Meditation Ideas
Sometimes it’s hard to find time to meditate, even with the best of intentions. Maybe you’re having a crazy day, or you’re just not in the mood. Sitting still with your eyes closed isn’t workable, whether due to privacy or your mind racing. Even taking a moment to focus on a distraction is helpful. It doesn’t have to be all or nothing. Scenario: You, sitting on a mountain with your guru, or why even bother? This black and white thinking is extremely critical and unrealistic for most of us. Although I would love to go on a silent retreat someday.
  1. If you have a plant in your office or home, take a moment to really drink it in with your senses. The colors of nature are naturally soothing to our minds.
  2. Look at images of ocean waves or trees.
  3. If you are outside, you can take a look at the sky to remind yourself that you are a part of something greater.
  4. Take a few deep breaths and hold for a few counts. This will help you calm your nerves before a presentation or difficult meeting.
  5. Look at art in your environment or in your apartment. I have a Chagall print of a Paris cafe. I imagine myself sitting and watching the world go by.
  6. Take a moment to practice gratitude for the good things in your life. Feel anticipation for something you are looking forward to.
  7. On the subway or in your car, you can send out loving vibes to your fellow passengers or drivers. This will help take the frustration out of your commute.
  8. When you hear the phone ring, you can take a moment to collect yourself, instead of taking the call on the first ring.
  9. Allow someone to go ahead of you in line and take a moment to appreciate the good deed and relax.
  10. Even reminding yourself-I take my time, there is no need to rush, can help you slow down when you rush out of habit.

None of these ideas take loads of time, but practicing these accumulated moments over the day will help you to maintain your peace and equilibrium.

Stop and Smell the Roses – Part 1

I was recently walking through my botanical garden and I had to remind myself to notice the flowers in bloom. Winter will be upon us and fall is already here. Whatever I had in mind for the day, stopping and noticing this moment was most important to me.

I’ve recently asked myself if I’m enjoying the pace of my life and honestly it’s a no. What I mean is that I try to cram so much into my free time because it’s very precious to me. I feel that I have to cram in what I”m missing. The pace is not sustainable. Everyone has different seasons of life so you may have to examine what is happening in your life.
